40% house
a knowledge exchange case study
The aim of the research was to look at the feasibility of the UK residential sector reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 60% by 2050.
The project examined different methods of reducing CO2 emissions, and the changes in policy and industry (design and construction, appliance manufacture, energy supply etc) needed to achieve a 60% reduction.
Academic researchers transferred knowledge to:
- Policy makers
- White-goods manufacturers
- Architects and planners
- Energy suppliers
The Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research (a NERC collaborative centre), undertook the research, and further NERC funding was provided through the Knowledge Exchange Call - Good Ideas scheme to:
- produce a booklet detailing how to achieve a 60% reduction in CO2 emissions.
- hold a booklet-launch conference for policy makers, architects, planners, white-goods manufacturers and energy providers.
