GovNet's 5th annual SDUK Conference is the UK's premier event for those involved with the UK sustainable development agenda. Through strategically placed high-level speakers such as Professor John Beddington, Chief Scientific Adviser to HM Government and the Rt. Hon. Hilary Benn MP, Secretary of State for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs and in-depth workshops, SDUK2010 will examine the wide-scale adaption needed by individuals, government, communities and business alike if we are to minimise the effects of a changing climate and ensure a sustainable future for generations to come. NERC is sponsoring and exhibiting at this event.

The Breathing Ocean
Finale event: UK Surface Ocean - Lower Atmosphere Study

Met Office, Exeter
This event will present the latest research in a key area of Earth system science: how the sea and sky are connected by chemical, physical and biological processes. Such connections between ocean and atmosphere play a crucial role in determining marine productivity, air quality and the global climate. The UK SOLAS community has investigated these processes with the Met Office and other national and international partners, through a five year, £11m research programme that is now nearing completion.
Deadline for registration is 19 March 2010.

NERC is sponsoring the geoengineering themed Lates programme on 31 March at the Science Museum. Find out what geoengineering is, the different techniques that can be used and hear from scientists who are involved in the research. Science Museum Lates is a free adults only event held once a month allowing you to experience the Science Museum after hours. Each Lates has a varied programme of entertainment and provides the opportunity to explore the museum's most popular exhibitions away from children.

A 'BioBlitz' is a large scale event that engages large numbers of people with biodiversity, inviting them to get directly involved in surveying and monitoring. These are a great way to work with local scientists seeking, identifying and recording as many species as possible in a 24 hour period. 2010 is the International Year of Biodiversity - BioBlitzes across the country will be linking up to share experiences and resources. More information on venues and dates will be available from March 2010.
