Interested in politics?

We offer internships with the Parliamentary Office of Science & Technology (POST), the Scottish Parliament Information Centre (SPICe), the Members Research Service (MRS) of the National Assembly for Wales and the Royal Commission for Environmental Pollution (RCEP), that give NERC students the chance to work in a policy informing organisation. Additionally, in 2010 NERC are running a number of pilot internships with the Scottish Government.

For more information see the policy internship scheme and Scottish Government internships for NERC funded PhD students 2010 pages.

Interested in entrepreneurship?

We fund a scheme that allows postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers to develop their understanding of all aspects of starting up a business in the natural sciences. Teams attend the workshop and hear presentations and case studies on commercialising their science ideas. On the final day teams present business plans to compete for a place in the Final, and the opportunity to win a range of prizes.

For more information see the Environment Yes page.

Researchers In Residence (RinR)

The scheme provides the opportunity for post graduate research scientists to work with Students in Secondary Schools and Colleges. It also provides an opportunity for the scientists to demonstrate that science can be interesting and fun.

More details about Researchers In Residence are available on the Research Councils UK website.
