Data centres

The Earth is ever changing and tracing and understanding past changes in the environment plays an important role in the prediction of future change. Many of the data collected by NERC provide a unique and irreplaceable record of the environment. Measurements accumulated over decades and historical records dating back beyond the 19th century provide a valuable resource to support research, survey and monitoring activities and for users in academia, government, the public sector, industry and commerce.

It is essential that data generated through NERC supported activities are properly managed to ensure their long-term availability. Our network of data centres provide support and guidance in data management to those funded by NERC, are responsible for the long-term curation of data and provide access to NERC's data holdings. The NERC Data Policy details our commitment to support the long-term management of data and also outlines the roles and responsibilities of all those involved in the collection and management of data.

The NERC Data Discovery Service provides an integrated, searchable catalogue of the data holdings of NERC's data centres. It can be used to find information on what data the NERC data centres hold and how to access these data.

For general enquiries contact NERC's data management co-ordinator, Mark Thorley.

For all other queries contact the data centres directly.
