Influence our research priorities
There are many ways in which you can influence the direction of our research or engage with its planning and execution.
Join one of our advisory boards or committees
We welcome - and need - representatives from relevant public sector organisations on our key decision-making and advisory committees, research programme steering committees and research centre boards. For details see our Boards and committees page.
Join our Affiliate Peer Review College
Public sector representatives are welcome to join our Affiliate College to help assess research proposals and make decisions on allocating funds. New members are appointed each year.
Commission research from our centres
Your research needs could be met by one of our research centres or major investments. They offer a wide range of skills, facilities and services. Please contact them.

Co-fund a research programme
We encourage user involvement in our research programmes to increase their relevance to users' needs. Contact our knowledge exchange staff.
Collaborate on individual research projects
You may be able to act as a partner under one or more of the knowledge exchange funding schemes, eg Partnership Research Grants, the Knowledge Transfer Call. You might be able to contribute support in kind, rather than financially. Contact our knowledge exchange funding scheme staff.
NERC Centres encourage collaboration with both public and private sector partners.
Support training and secondment opportunities
You may be able to support a PhD student under the CASE Studentships Open Competition scheme, to give a student an opportunity to experience working in a public sector organisation and to benefit your organisation at the same time. Contact our knowledge exchange funding scheme staff.
If you would like to support a policy placement - ie have a workshadower from academia or an academic working on a project in your organisation for 3-12 months, funded 50:50 with NERC, please see our policy placement pages. If you have an idea for a policy placement project, please contact Faith Culshaw.
Approach us to arrange a meeting
If you or your organisation would like to hold a one-off or regular meeting with us, please contact our public sector or parliamentary liaison staff.
We hold regular bilateral meetings with a number of government departments and agencies.
Use opportunities to interact informally with NERC scientists and research managers
NERC sometimes hosts events aimed at engaging policy makers and others in our activities and at gaining their input on important issues.
Provide input to NERC consultations and reviews
Specific requests for input are usually announced on our home page, but you can also check what consultations are open and previous results online.
