Knowledge exchange - introduction

Ensuring that NERC science benefits the UK
NERC-funded researchers are continually adding to our knowledge of the environment. By working with policy makers and regulators, industry and business, non-governmental organisations and charities we can develop appropriate ways to address environmental issues. Sometimes the outcomes of our research can be translated directly into products and services.
Making sure that our science is contributing to the economic well-being and quality of life in the UK and around the world is an integral part of our business.
The process by which we do this is called knowledge exchange, and we have a Knowledge Exchange Strategy to help us maximise the use of our science.
You can find out more about how NERC science is used and also see examples of our activities on our case studies pages.
Impact Action Plan
The Impact Action Plan, available below, shows how NERC will achieve increased impact from its science. The plan sets out key objectives and actions for knowledge exchange.
How you can get involved
Under 'Science for industry and business' and 'Science for government and public sector' you will find ways in which users can engage with NERC to help exchange knowledge and benefit their sector. Scientists working within NERC's remit will find information to help them commercialise their science or communicate it to policy makers.
The 'KE funding schemes' pages give details of NERC's funding mechanisms for supporting knowledge exchange.
