Ocean acidification

a knowledge exchange case study

Scientists from the Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML) have been influencing both national and international policymakers on the issue of ocean acidification due to rising atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations, and the potential impacts of carbon capture and storage, in the context of research commissioned by the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra). Details are given in Case Study 3 of NERC's Science into policy: taking part in the process booklet.

In addition, the then Minister for Climate Change and the Environment (Elliot Morley MP) visited PML in July 2005 to learn more about ocean acidification following the Exeter Climate Change Conference.
