Collaborate on individual research projects
We encourage partnerships between public sector research and industry throughout the research cycle, from design through execution to exploitation. We support public-private partnerships through several schemes, ranging from straightforward joint research funding through industrial placements to support for networking.
You may be able to help us commercialise our research outputs.
A number of NERC's centres, in addition to those which undertake commissioned research, encourage collaboration with industry:
Use our training and exchange opportunities
You could help to provide - and benefit from - an industrial training opportunity. NERC needs industrial partners for Collaborative Awards in Science & Engineering (CASE) Open Studentships, Knowledge Transfer Partnerships and Royal Society Industry Fellowship schemes.
Join one of our advisory boards or committees
We welcome - and need - representatives of private sector organisations on our key decision-making and advisory committees, research programme steering committees and research centre boards. For details see our Boards and Committees page.
Opportunities are often publicised in our newsletter.
Join our Affiliate Peer Review College
Industry and other private sector representatives are welcome to join our Affiliate College to help assess research proposals and make decisions on allocating funds. New members are appointed each year.
Provide input to NERC consultations and reviews
Specific requests for input are usually announced on our home page, but you can also check what consultations are open and previous results online.
Keep up to date with our activities
Register for our bi-monthly knowledge exchange newsletter Using NERC Science (UNS).
Register to receive our free award-winning quarterly magazine Planet Earth.
You can also sign up for news alerts via RSS or electronic mailings, which will also tell you about NERC events.
Get involved in a Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN)
NERC researchers are involved in various Knowledge Transfer Networks supported by the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills (BIS). Further details are available through the Technology Strategy Board's _connect website.
Trade associations
If you belong to a trade association such as the Environmental Industries Commission (EIC) or the UK Forum for Environmental Industries (UKFEI), please use it to engage with us. We welcome representations from environmental trade associations that lead to wider or stronger collaboration. Contact Lynne Porter.
