Design
Page layout and navigation elements
Apart from updates to the site's Information Architecture - the text and ordering in the left hand navigation - all elements of the site design are fixed. This includes the header, footer, crumbtrail and layout of content (three column layout).
Any variation must be approved by the Head of Communications.
Header
The header comprises a graphic over which navigation text and the search box are positioned as live text using CSS.
Photography
The graphic is made up of a photograph overlaid with the NERC logo and the tagline "the science of the natural world". New photographs may be selected with approval, but no text is to be added or changed.
Photographs should represent NERC in a positive but unobtrusive way, and should allow the other graphic elements to be read clearly.
Negative environmental issues, macro or montaged photography should not be used.
NERC logo
Where possible, the positive (red/black) logo should appear. However if the negative (reversed out, white only) logo displays more clearly, this can be used instead.
See the logos pages for download graphics and guidance notes.
