Technology Clusters
Announcement of Opportunity
Closing date: 16:00 on 14 May 2009
The Natural Environment Research Council invites proposals to establish Technology Clusters that will bring together key researchers and other stakeholders and provide a forum for technology networking and knowledge exchange.
NERC wishes to support four clusters in total, one in each of the four NERC strategic technology areas:
- Remote Sensing and Earth Observation
- Intelligent Field Sensors and Networks of Sensors
- Novel Laboratory Instrumentation
- Informatics, Models and Data
Each cluster must aim to support and enhance capability in the technologies specific to its area, drawing on expertise from and contributing new approaches to relevant NERC Science Themes. Clusters should provide a forum for technology sharing, training and networking between NERC communities and externally with other researchers, industry and policy makers/regulators. Clusters should aim to improve coordination and collaboration in environmental technology research activities and assist in building a NERC technology community.
The clusters will be awarded as NERC research grants and the usual eligibility rules apply. Funding of up to £100k (at 80% FEC) is available to support each cluster.
The clusters are expected to start in Autumn 2009 and operate for up to two years.
