Polar research facilities
Antarctica
The British Antarctic Survey owns seven research stations in the Antarctic, operating four of them throughout the year:
- Bird Island, South Georgia
- Halley, Coats Land
- King Edward Point, Cumberland Bay, South Georgia
- Rothera, Adelaide Island
The remainder are summer only facilities:
- Signy, South Orkney Islands
- Fossil Bluff, Alexander Island
- Sky Blu, Eastern Ellsworth Land
Arctic
NERC has laboratory space and a field support facility within the Arctic Circle at Ny-Ålesund, Spitsbergen, in the Svalbard Archipelago, Norway.
Data
Polar data should be deposited at the NERC Polar data centre. A catalogue of arctic data held in UK universities is held by the Arctic Environmental Metadata Centre.
