Polar research facilities
The British Antarctic Survey owns seven research stations in the Antarctic, operating four of them throughout the year:
- Bird Island, South Georgia
- Halley, Coats Land
- King Edward Point, Cumberland Bay, South Georgia
- Rothera, Adelaide Island
The remainder are summer only facilities:
NERC has laboratory space and a field support facility within the Arctic Circle at Ny-Ålesund, Spitsbergen, in the Svalbard Archipelago, Norway.
