Principal Scientists' workshop
By providing a Principal Scientist (PS) with ship time, NERC is investing a large amount of funds in a research project above and beyond that announced in the grant award. For most cruises this is of a value of £100Ks.
Therefore, to ensure that the most effective use is made of this investment, NERC holds the Principal Scientists workshop each year, for scientists with a funded bid for a cruise in the following year.
This workshop is to provide additional information to scientists, as experience has shown that placing the information on NERC websites or emailing information is not sufficient to ensure the smooth running of the delivery of the NERC Marine Facilities Programme.
The Principal Scientist, or a delegated substitute, is required to attend in order for their cruise to be included in the cruise programme.
