NERC ship management review

Background

NERC announced its intention to undertake a review of its ship management in August 2008, reporting to NERC Council in February 2009. The original NERC ship management review announcement, sets out the background to the review and the work that was to be undertaken.

Outcomes

NERC Council discussed the report on NERC ship management at its meeting on 12 February 2009. A copy of the executive summary of the report and the report's recommendations is available.

The report was very well received by NERC Council who commented positively on the robustness of the evidence that had been gathered to support the report's recommendations. A key part of this evidence, gathered from a range of internal and external sources, demonstrated that the efficiency and effectiveness with which NERC currently manages its ship operations is on a par with industry standards. This is a very positive message from which everyone involved in ship management and operations in NERC, whether on board or on-shore, should take great satisfaction.

NERC Council were happy to accept the report and its recommendations in full.

What happens next?

Briefings for staff at NOCS and BAS on the outcomes of the review will be held at the time of this announcement. The Trade Unions have already been made aware of the content of the report to NERC Council. This announcement will also simultaneously be drawn to the attention of the relevant academic community.

The Project Board which has overseen this review will meet for a final time in March 2009 to develop an action plan to ensure that the report's recommendations are delivered. Progress on delivering this action plan will be reported to NERC Council.

The action plan to implement the recommendations is now available.
