Cruise Review

Post-cruise assessment form

In order that NERC can evaluate the service provided during the cruise the principal scientist is required to fill out a 'NERC post-cruise assessment form', which is provided at the time of the cruise offer.

NERC is interested in feedback/comment (both positive and negative) on each cruise, so that it can ensure that the science community continues to be provided with high quality support whilst at sea.

The Cruise Programme Review Group will review all forms.

Cruise report

Principal scientists will be expected to provide a comprehensive cruise report within six-months of completion of the cruise. Electronic copies of the cruise report should be provided to

  1. NERC
  2. Head, NMF Sea Systems
  3. Director, British Oceanographic Data Centre
  4. NMF Sea Systems Head of Operations or BAS Operations Manager (as appropriate).

These reports will become available to view via the inventory of cruises on the BODC website.

All users of data/samples collected during a cruise are requested to acknowledge both direct and indirect ship support in publications by quoting the cruise number.

Indirect support refers to instances when the individual does not participate in the cruise but benefits from data collected.

This acknowledgement facilitates obligatory citation searches and monitoring of output from services provided by NERC.

Principle scientists will be required to submit a cruise summary report form , in electronic form, to BODC within 7 days of the end of their cruise.
