Resource Recovery From Waste: Challenges for the health of the environment

Announcement of Opportunity - Programme Advisory Group Invitation

Closing date: 16:00 Wednesday 23 May 2012

Summary

This announcement defines the recruitment process and the role for the Programme Advisory Group (PAG) of the Resource Recovery from Waste: Challenges for the Health of the Environment programme. This key group will advise NERC on the strategic direction of the programme, integration of the programme science, and potential opportunities for engagement and impact throughout the lifetime of the programme. The first output of the PAG will be the Science and Implementation Plan. The PAG is expected to exist for the duration of the research programme (2012-2018), although individual members who know they may wish to serve for shorter lengths of time are still encouraged to apply. Applications expressing an interest to join this PAG are being invited (deadline: 16:00 Wednesday 23 May 2012) in the format outlined in the full Announcement of Opportunity document and the first meeting of the group will be Tuesday 10 July 2012. It is expected that this will take place at a central London location to be confirmed. It is a requirement that applicants must be able to attend this date.

Guidance for applicants

Eligibility

Applications from individuals - in both the public and private sectors - with relevant research backgrounds and who are able to make the necessary commitment to the Resource Recovery from Waste Research Programme are welcome.

Individuals who have been involved in the PAG who are eligible to apply for NERC funding will be able to do so in any subsequent calls for proposals. However, the Chair of the PAG will not be eligible to apply for funding.

Finances

NERC will cover all reasonable travel and subsistence costs incurred through PAG membership responsibilities.

Governance and performance management

Management, reporting and monitoring procedures will be in line with NERC policy. The PAG will report to NERC via its Chair.

Selection Criteria

The final choice of the PAG membership will be made by NERC, with appropriate advice, and will be based on the following criteria (not in priority order):

  • balance of representation across academic, stakeholder and international communities;
  • relevant expertise;
  • cross-community knowledge;
  • contacts and links; and
  • track record.

NERC reserves the right to approach and appoint additional members to the PAG to achieve the balance of representation required and to avoid over-representation from any single department or establishment.

Please note that it will not be possible to provide feedback on unsuccessful expressions of interest.

The timetable is as follows:
