Increasing Resilience to Natural Hazards in Earthquake-prone & Volcanic Regions

Note to the community

NERC would like to reiterate some key points regarding the Increasing Resilience to Natural Hazards programme.

The scoping study round invited interdisciplinary applications from potential consortium groups to evaluate research needs and to build and refine the focus of the main programme research agenda. A final report will be required from each funded study, and these will be drawn upon by the programme's Advisory Group and the NERC/ESRC to inform and shape the research programme's main call for proposals.

To ensure members of the community who were unsuccessful/did not apply to the first funding round are able to provide input, an online questionnaire will be open in February/March 2011. This will provide an opportunity to gain their perspectives on how to refine the strategic objectives of the main consortium call, and will be used by the programme's Advisory Group and NERC/ESRC to do so.

The main consortium grant round will be an open call. Therefore, proposals from consortia who did not apply to the scoping study round, as well as proposals that build on those that did, will be accepted.

The full programme Implementation Plan and timetable will be available on the website shortly.

All queries concerning the running of the programme should come to NERC and/or ESRC. Please do not contact the theme leader Professor John Rees in this case, please contact Amy Vitale.
