QUEST
QUEST Earth System Science Summer School,
1-12 September 2008,
Bristol University
The QUEST Earth System Science Summer School (ES4) is being held from 1-12 September 2008 at Bristol University and is currently open for registration. It is free for all students funded by any of the UK Research Councils (e.g. NERC, EPSRC, ESRC, etc). Support may also be available for students supported by other means.
It provides an introduction to the interdisciplinary subject of Earth System Science where world-leading scientists, including Steve Schneider and Bob Costanza, will discuss the interactions between different environments, the feedbacks, and consequences of change within these systems. Participants can expect to learn about the many areas of natural and social science this encompasses, to develop their interdisciplinary research skills and expand their scientific networks.
It is intended for post graduate students and those new to the Earth sciences field who wish to discover more about the wider context of their research.
To register and find out more information please go to the QUEST website.
Message from Prof. Tim Jickells,
NERC Theme Leader for Earth System Science.
"The Earth System Science Summer School has run since 2000, supported by NERC with the endorsement of the Royal Society's Global Environment Research Committee. As the NERC Strategy Theme Leader for Earth System Science, I fully support this annual event. It gives early stage researchers an overview of the profoundly interdisciplinary science of global change, providing the broader context for their own area of inquiry. It is open to any NERC-funded post-graduate student, and is always an exciting opportunity for learning about the latest science, networking and meeting some of the UK's leading Earth system scientists informally."
