Ocean Acidification

Announcement of Opportunity

Closing date: 12:00 on 27 July 2009

NERC is seeking to appoint a part time Science Coordinator and a part time Knowledge Exchange Coordinator to work on the UK Ocean Acidification Research Programme.

The UK Ocean Acidification Research Programme is a 5-year, £11m collaborative programme funded by NERC, the Department for the Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) and the Department of Energy & Climate Change (DECC), and is a Living With Environmental Change (LWEC) accredited programme.

The management of this research programme will be carried out by a team comprised of a NERC Science & Innovation Manager and Programme Administrator, and an external Science Coordinator and Knowledge Exchange Coordinator.

The Science Coordinator will work closely with the Programme Executive Board, Programme Advisory Group and Knowledge Exchange Coordinator to develop and execute the UK Ocean Acidification Research Programme's Science, Implementation, Data Management and Knowledge Exchange Plans; and monitor progress against programme objectives. A key function of the Science Coordinator is to establish liaison with and between award holders in the programme, and to build a "programme community". The Science Coordinator will play a major role in promoting awareness of the aims and achievements of the programme, raising the profile of the programme in the wider community. Through contact with relevant user groups the Science Coordinator will facilitate collaboration, develop opportunities for co-funding and partnership (including with international partners) and promote knowledge exchange for the exploitation of programme results.

The Knowledge Exchange Coordinator will work closely with the Programme Executive Board, Programme Advisory Group and Science Coordinator to develop and execute the Knowledge Exchange Plan and relevant sections of the Implementation Plan. The Coordinator will interact with both the scientists involved in the UK Ocean Acidification research programme and with policy makers, regulators and private sector users, to pro-actively communicate Ocean Acidification research, and to initiate new ways to facilitate the two-way transfer of knowledge between Ocean Acidification researchers and decision makers in the public and private sectors.

Interested individuals/organisations are invited to bid for a tender using the OJEU Restricted Procedure. The first stage of this procedure involves the completion of a Pre-Qualification Questionnaire (PQQ). The closing date for submission of PQQs is 12:00 on 27 July 2009.

For further information on the roles of the Science and Knowledge Exchange Coordinators and on how to apply please see the Pre-Qualification Questionnaire below.
