The UK Voluntary Reporting Scheme for engineered nanoscale materials

The UK Voluntary Reporting Scheme for engineered nanomaterials (VRS) aims to support the positive development of nanoscience and nanotechnologies by encouraging industry and researchers to provide information to the government.

Defra seeks data on free manufactured nanomaterials, including details of physical characteristics and properties, observed behaviour and effects in the environment and measures taken to mitigate exposure. Information submitted to the scheme will help to build a clearer picture of those nanomaterials currently in production and use in the UK, thus giving focus to the government's effort to ensure that nanotechnologies fulfil their potential and provide maximum benefit to society.

Further information on the Scheme is available on the Defra website.

Queries about the VRS, or any aspect of the government's nanotechnologies strategy should be addressed to Steve Morgan (Tel: 020 7238 1580) at Defra's Chemicals & Nanotechnology Team.
