Methane Network

Methane Hack meeting - Strategies for reducing growth in atmospheric methane

Thursday 1 December 2011
The Geological Society of London
Burlington House, Piccadilly, London, W1J 0BG

Closing date for submission of abstracts: Friday 16 September 2011

NERC invites contributions from the natural and social sciences, as well as the engineering, agricultural and waste communities, to present established, novel and speculative approaches to:

  1. reducing atmospheric methane sources; and
  2. direct removal of methane from the atmosphere.

We further invite presentations on the economic implications of such technologies and on the societal challenges to overcome if such strategies are to be implemented. The meeting structure will allow for substantial talks (c. 20-30 minutes) and plenty of discussion time.

UK and European based presenters of accepted abstracts will have the costs of attending the meeting covered by MethaneNet. A contribution towards costs of attending the meeting may be available to international contributors (beyond the UK and EU) at the discretion of the organisers. This open meeting will be free to attend (no registration fee).

Invited speakers will be announced in due course and meeting registration will open in October.

Please submit your abstract (title, authors and affiliations, and a maximum of 300 word abstract) to methanenet@open.ac.uk. The deadline for abstract submission is 16 September 2011.

For further information please see MethaneNet or contact Dr Gail Riekie.
