Environmental Mathematics & Statistics
NERC and the Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) jointly funded the Environmental Mathematics & Statistics programme. NERC wanted to attract mathematicians and statisticians to environmental research, and EPSRC had identified environmental mathematics and statistics as a strategic priority This capacity-building initiative addressed both research council's concerns.
The programme brought mathematical rigour, statistical reasoning and advanced tools to bear on problems in the environmental sciences. It boosted mathematics and statistics within life and environmental science.
