Long Term Co-evolution of Life & the Planet

Town Meeting

Call for registration and Expressions of Interest

Date: 8 February 2010
Venue:
The Geological Society, Burlington House, London
Start time:
10:00am

The Town Meeting is an opportunity for researchers to discuss expressions of interest, explore ideas, network, collaborate and form new research partnerships that may be taken forward via proposals to the Long Term Co-evolution of Life and the Planet programme.

The meeting will comprise a series of presentations and break-out sessions. The Earth system science theme leader and Earth sciences' science & innovation manager will attend, present details of the programme objectives and implementation plan, and be available for questions. Selected attendees will be invited to make a series of brief presentations of research topics relevant to the programme. Networking opportunities will be available as well as break-out sessions to discuss particular earth system events that could be the focus of proposals.

Participation in the Town Meeting is not mandatory for submission to the programme's call for proposals, however it is strongly recommended.

Meeting registration

We invite all individuals interested in participating in the programme to register to attend. Space at the meeting is limited to about 100 people and NERC reserve the right to moderate the attendance of the meeting if certain groups or institutions are over-represented. Note: travel and subsistence costs will not be paid by NERC.

Please use our online registration form to register for the event. You may also indicate if you wish to make a 5 minute presentation of your research ideas.

The registration deadline is 25 January 2010.

Expressions of Interest

We encourage research teams interested in participating in the programme via the current Announcement of Opportunity to submit an Expression of Interest (up to 1 page using the template downloadable below). This will outline the interdisciplinary research activity they intend to take forward as a proposal to the programme and highlight any areas requiring development and/or new collaborations sought which could be facilitated via the Town Meeting. The Expression of Interest should be submitted by the potential lead Principal Investigator.

The Expressions of Interest received will be shared with all Town Meeting participants and used to facilitate the development of proposals and new collaborations.

Expression of Interest form (??KB)

Please complete the form and submit this as an email attachment to Michal Filtness. The deadline for submitting Expressions of Interest is 16:00 on 25 January 2010.

Note that submission of an Expression of Interest is not essential to be eligible to submit a proposal to this programme's Announcement of Opportunity. Expressions of Interest will not be assessed by NERC and no official feedback will be available.
