Technology Clusters
Programme background
The Technology Clusters aim to improve co-ordination and collaboration in environmental technology research activities. They will bring together key researchers and other stakeholders and provide a forum for technology networking and knowledge exchange.
The objectives of the technology clusters programme are to:
- Create and support technology clusters in four strategic technology areas:
- Remote Sensing & Earth Observation
- Intelligent Field Sensors & Networks of Sensors
- Novel Laboratory Instrumentation
- Informatics, Models & Data
- Develop a supportive and vibrant environment for technologies research.
- Provide a forum for technology dissemination, showcasing and sharing best practice across NERC science disciplines.
- Facilitate the growth of the NERC Technology Community.
Each cluster will support and enhance capability in the technologies specific to its area via a series of activities which may include, for example, workshops, focus/expert groups, training events, etc.
NERC is supporting two clusters in total, one in each of the following two of NERC strategic technology areas:
- Remote Sensing & Earth Observation
(led by Dr P Aplin, University of Nottingham) - Informatics, Models & Data (led by Mr J Giles, BGS)
(no fundable applications were received for the strategic areas of Novel Laboratory Instrumentation or Intelligent Field Sensors & Networks of Sensors)
Each cluster will operate for two years.
