Aerosols & Clouds

Photo: Clouds

Clouds have a very large effect on the Earth's energy budget, which can be altered by the addition of aerosol particles into the atmosphere from human and natural processes. Particles act as sites for cloud droplet and ice formation. This influences cloud properties and dynamics, and the way the cloud interacts with solar radiation.

Some of the largest uncertainties in future climate prediction are in the radiative impacts of aerosols and clouds and how this links to cloud formation and albedo. More about the Aerosols and Clouds Research Programme
