Announcement of Opportunity -
Environment and Health Science Coordinator
The opportunity is now closed.
The Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), on behalf of the partners1 funding the Environmental Exposures and Health Initiative (EEHI) and Environmental and Social Ecology of Human Infectious Disease Initiative (ESEI), is seeking an Environment and Health Science Coordinator.
EEHI is a five year programme with a budget of ~£8M supporting four large strategic collaborative consortia providing important new knowledge on the interconnections and pathways between environmental pollutants and interacting stressors, exposure routes and health effects in humans, including variations in susceptibility and the definition of health risks.
ESEI will support several large research consortia with funds of up to £10M that will enable society to respond proactively to the threat from novel pathogens and emerging infections by generating knowledge on the ways in which the natural and social environments affect the emergence and spread of infectious disease.
These research programmes have been launched under the umbrella of the Living with Environmental Change (LWEC) partnership, and are designed to contribute to the strategic objective on protecting human, plant and animal health from diseases, pests and environmental hazards.
The role of the Science Coordinator is to work closely with the funded researchers and the funding agencies to achieve the programmes' vision by:
- supporting the developing interdisciplinary community;
- facilitating knowledge exchange between researchers and users;
- co-ordinating activities with other relevant initiatives;
- promoting the aims and achievements of the initiatives to the wider community; and
- providing support with programme management
The role is expected to commence in April 2012, initially for four years, working on a part-time basis.
