The Role of the Southern Ocean in the Earth System (RoSES) - Workshop

14 October 2016 (Friday)
De Vere West One hotel, 9-10 Portland Place, London W1B 1PR

 This event has now closed

A workshop will be held to facilitate the development of high quality proposals that will take full advantage of potential collaborative opportunities.

The objectives of the workshops are:

  • To ensure the research community is aware of the NERC national capability available to support research, such as the recently funded National Capability Ocean Regulation of Climate through Heat & Carbon Sequestration & Transports (ORCHESTRA) programme, its field campaigns and modelling, facilities, and infrastructure, as well as collaboration opportunities with potential partners.
  • To discuss science challenges and possible approaches to undertaking the research.

Coffee and tea available from 09:30 and the workshop will start at 10:15. The workshop is expected to end no later than 16:00.

The deadline for registration is 12:00 on 6 October 2016.

Individuals interested in submitting a proposal to the RoSES Announcement of Opportunity (AO) are encouraged to attend, however attendance at the workshop is not a prerequisite for submitting a proposal. Please note that the AO will be published a week before the workshop.

Spaces at the workshop are limited to 60 and will be assigned on a first come first served basis whilst ensuring an institutional balance should there be high demand for places. Registrations from the same research group should therefore be managed if possible.

The workshop will include an opportunity for attendees to give a two minute presentation (two slide maximum) of their research ideas / interests relating to the RoSES programme. When registering, please indicate if you would like the opportunity to give a presentation. There will only be time for a maximum of 40 presentations. Should more people be interested in presenting, opportunities will be allocated on a first come first served basis whilst ensuring institutional balance. The number of people applying to give presentations from the same research group should be managed.

Presenters will be asked to submit their two slides by 12 October in PDF format to Lisa Hole at . Copies of all presentations will be made available on the NERC website after the workshop.

Further details of the workshop agenda will be circulated to delegates prior to the meeting.

NERC will pay essential travel and subsistence costs to support attendance at the workshop that fall within NERC guidelines for appropriate expenditure. Note that first class travel is not permitted and taxi fares can only be claimed in exceptional circumstances where there is no public transport or practical alternative.
