  • Data Centres

  • NERC Inter Agency Research Committee on the Hydrological Use of Weather Radar

  • NERC-funded network on Persistent Organic Pollutants

  • DIVERSITAS
Integrating biodiversity science for human well being by linking biology, ecology and social sciences, DIVERSITAS produces socially relevant new knowledge to support sustainable use of biodiversity.

  • National Biodiversity network
The National Biodiversity network (NBN) is a project to build the UK's first network of biodiversity information.

  • UK Environmental Change Network
The UK Environmental Change Network (ECN) is involved with Data, monitoring and research to detect and interpret environmental change.

  • Environment Research Funders' Forum (ERFF)

  • Global Taxonomy Initiative
Governments, through the Convention on Biological Diversity, have acknowledged the existence of a "taxonomic impediment" to the sound management of biodiversity. The purpose of the Global Taxonomic Initiative (GTI) is to remove or reduce this taxonomic impediment - in other words, the knowledge gaps in our taxonomic system (including those associated with genetic systems), the shortage of trained taxonomists and curators, and the impact these deficiencies have on our ability to conserve, use and share the benefits of our biological diversity.

  • NERC taxonomy funding initiative
NERC contributes a small amount of funding annually to the Linnean Society as part of its Systematics Research Fund. Grants up to £1·5k are available for work relating to, or being carried out, in the UK and firm evidence must be provided of publication potential. Application is via the Linnean Society.

  • UK Biodiversity Action Plan
Run by the UK Biodiversity Research Advisory Group (UKBRAG).

  • BiodivERsA
BiodivERsA is an ERA-net (European Research Area) project where 19 European research-funding agencies seek best practice as a basis for cooperation in order to strengthen European research.

  • Contaminated Land: Applications in Real Environments Created to find, demonstrate and report on technologies for the remediation of contaminated land, Contaminated Land: Applications in Real Environments (CL:AIRE) provides greater stakeholder confidence in sustainable and cost-effective alternatives to landfills.

  • NitroEurope
NitroEurope (NEU) is a developing effort for integrated European research into the nitrogen cycle.

  • Global Environmental Change and Food Systems
Understanding the links between food security and global environmental change is the research focus of Global Environmental Change & Food Systems (GECAFS), a comprehensive programme of interdisciplinary research. GECAFS will improve understanding of the relationship between food systems and the Earth System to deliver science-based tools for analysing the socioeconomic and environmental consequences of adaptation strategies. These will be designed to help policy-makers and managers evaluate the best options for reducing vulnerability of food systems to global environmental change while minimising further environmental degradation.
