Oceans 2025
A strategic marine science programme for NERC
Oceans 2025 is NERC's co-ordinated marine science programme. Our seven marine research centres will work together to increase people's knowledge of the marine environment so that they are better able to protect it for future generations. Running for five years, this programme will improve our understanding of how our seas behave and how they are changing, and what that might mean not just for our oceans, but for society.
NERC is investing approximately £24m each year in the Oceans 2025 programme. This represents just less than 50% of its total spend on marine science which includes other strategic research programmes, responsive research grants and training awards, and major services and facilities.
