2 October 2008
Ian Pearson today announced the re-appointment of Professor Alan Thorpe as Chief Executive and Deputy Chair of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC).
Announcing the appointment, Ian Pearson said, "I am very pleased that Professor Alan Thorpe has agreed to remain as Chief Executive and Deputy Chair of NERC for a second term of appointment. He has contributed significantly to the important work of the NERC and will continue to play a key leadership role."
Professor Thorpe's re-appointment is for four years ending on 31 March 2013.
Professor Thorpe said, "Environmental research is critical if society is to address the tremendous challenges we all face; climate change, loss of biodiversity, unsustainable use of natural resources. I am delighted to be able to lead NERC over the next period to enable the NERC funded community, with our partners, to produce world-leading and vitally important research".
