Concerned about the environment?

21 September 2006

Concerned about the environment?
Have your say about what issues matter to you.

People will have the chance next week to meet members of the UK's leading environmental research organisation, find out how funding decisions are made and give their views on what issues matter to them.

For the past five years the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) has opened up one of its Council meetings so that people can see how decisions about funding priorities are made. Funding comes from the public purse so people have a right to give their views on what environmental issues are important to them. This year the meeting will be held on 28 September at the University of East Anglia, Norwich.

Professor Alan Thorpe, NERC's Chief Executive said "Heat-waves, drought and violent floods are difficult environmental hazards to cope with. NERC-funded scientists are carrying out research in these areas and are tackling many other environmental issues. We want to hear about the issues that cause concern to people in the UK and this meeting provides an opportunity to do that."
