Environmental scientists build bridges with industry

Sorry, this service is no longer available.

2 March 2004

The launch of a new website will be a breath of fresh air to many companies desperate for expertise in the environmental sciences.

The Research Capability Service is a 'one-stop shop' that will deliver world-class scientists and researchers to companies and organisations.

The website has been set up by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), which funds and manages earth system science in the UK.

The market sectors that NERC is targeting include: the marine environment, biotechnology, climate forecasting, land use, waste and pollution, construction and engineering, as well as many other related fields.

NERC commercial manager, Dr Jane Metcalfe, said "Businesses often have trouble finding the right experts for the job. This new service will make it easier for the research and business sectors to form partnerships.

"For instance, a construction company might want to assess the environmental impact of its work, but not know how to go about it. This website will give them a starting point," she added.

Business managers can also use the website to find knowledge, expertise and equipment relating to the environmental sciences.
