Nuclear Blog
6 June 2006
Kat Arney, an MSc student at Birkbeck College and presenter of the Naked Scientist radio show has featured CEH scientist, Dr Jim Smith* in her weblog for the Institute of Physics.
In two entries of the blog, an exploration of the issues surrounding nuclear new-build in the UK, Kat refers to Dr Smith's research on the Chernobyl disaster and his book Chernobyl: catastrophe and consequences, co-written with Dr Nick Beresford.
One of the unexpected results of the research is that nature has actually reclaimed the Chernobyl exclusion zone and is now thriving.
* Dr Jim Smith is at the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology in Dorset.
