Climate change report launched

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs today unveils its report 'Avoiding Dangerous Climate Change'.
The report follows-on from the international scientific conference held at the Met Office in Exeter in February 2005, at the start of the UK's G8 Presidency. It includes chapters on the melting of the Greenland ice sheet; an overview of dangerous climate change; and an assessment of the risk of a collapse of the Atlantic Thermohaline Circulation.
During the launch event this evening, at the Royal Society in London, a number of scientists will be presenting some of the climate change work funded by the Natural Environment Research Council.
- Dr David Vaughan from the British Antarctic Survey will speak on 'The ice sheets, sea level and climate change';
- Dr Carol Turley from the Plymouth Marine Laboratory will discuss 'Ocean acidification - the other CO2 problem';
- Dr Rachel Warren from the University of East Anglia will present the 'Impacts of climate change on natural and human systems';
- Dr Terry Barker from Cambridge University will talk about the 'Technological options to avoid dangerous climate change.'
