Guidance for submission of final reports
Final reports need to be submitted for research grants and fellowships ending before 1 January 2013. For grants ending on or after 1 January 2013 a final report is no longer required.
Guidance for submitting a final report is detailed in section G of the NERC Research Grants & Fellowships Handbook.
Other reports
Some grant schemes may require that other reports be made to NERC; in these cases Principal Investigators will be advised what is required.
A Final Expenditure Statement is required for all NERC grants and fellowships within three months of the end date. This requirement is unchanged and applies to all lead and component grants.
Research Outcomes Collection
Capturing the outputs, outcomes and impacts from NERC grants remains a high priority. Research Outcomes Collection is managed jointly for NERC, EPSRC, BBSRC, ESRC and AHRC through the Research Outcomes System (ROS)
.
ROS is open year-round for submissions. Principal Investigators (PIs) must report outcomes on an annual basis for all current grants, and for five years post completion. Alternatively, a null return must be submitted to be compliant with the annual collection round (deadline this year, 2 April 2013).
NERC adopted ROS at the beginning of 2013 and, with multiple improvements to ROS this year, the research councils are allowing processes to bed down before strict application of sanctions. However, much of the content submitted through ROS will be accessible to the public and potential collaborative partners by the end of 2013 through Gateway to Research
- providing a strong incentive for PIs to report comprehensively into ROS, especially key findings and summaries of impact.
