Belmont Forum and G8HORCs International Opportunities Fund
Proposals are invited to this joint funding call of approximately €20m between the Belmont Forum and G8 Heads of Research Councils (G8HORCs). This International Opportunities Fund is aimed at supporting excellent research on the themes of Coastal Vulnerability and Freshwater Security.
Funding will support researchers to cooperate in consortia consisting of partners from at least three of the participating countries and must bring together natural scientists, social scientists and research users (policy makers, regulators, NGOs, communities and industry).
NERC and ESRC are funding the UK contribution to this call, of up to €2·8m, and expect to support UK participation in approximately 5-8 proposals in total across both themes.
Potential UK applicants should be aware that, in order to add value to existing strategic investments, eligibility for UK environmental researchers will be restricted to holders of existing NERC research programme or research centre funding in the relevant themes.*
Please see the Belmont Forum website, and the UK Annex on the website, for further details.
The closing date for pre-proposals is 20 July 2012.
* Freshwater Security: only Principal or Co-Investigators of the Changing Water Cycle, Ecosystem Services for Poverty Alleviation, Environmental Virtual Observatory and Quantifying Uncertainty programmes, and NERC centre researchers involved with relevant NERC national capability, are eligible as natural science Principal or Co-Investigators.
Coastal Vulnerability: only Principal or Co-Investigators of the Coastal Sediment Systems and Flood Risks from Extreme Events programmes, and NERC centre researchers involved with relevant NERC national capability, are eligible as natural science Principal or Co-Investigators.
