NERC Training Advisory Group (TAG)
Nominations for Chair and members
The Natural Environment Research Council is seeking a part-time non-executive Chair and four new members for its Training Advisory Group (TAG).
TAG provides the key source of advice to the NERC Executive on the strategic direction and success of NERC training investments, including NERC's role and strategy in meeting skills shortages and other training priorities, on driving up the quality, delivery of training, and on recommendations on the award of training funds. The NERC Executive will retain responsibility for how such advice is used.
We welcome applications from people from all parts of NERC's community. To ensure the membership of TAG includes a spread of expertise across the whole of NERC's remit we particularly encourage applicants with the following experience or expertise in the following areas:
- Atmospheric science
- Polar science
- Working with end users; eg industry, policy makers.
One of the new members will be an early-career researcher who is within five years of their PhD award (excluding any career breaks such as maternity/paternity leave), so we welcome applications from individuals at this stage of their career.
Appointments will be made for one year in the first instance, with the expectation that membership will be extended for a further two years.
All applications will be considered on merit. The final decision on appointments rests with the Director of Science Delivery, the Director of People & Skills and the NERC Chief Executive.
Further information, including Terms of Reference for TAG, is set out in the TAG Further Particulars document below. Person specifications for the Chair and members are set out in the TAG Person Specifications document.
To nominate yourself for membership, please complete the TAG Self-Nomination Form and email this, along with a summary of your CV (maximum two sides of A4), to the address below.
To nominate someone else as a TAG member, please complete the TAG Nomination Form, including your reasons for the nomination. It is important to indicate whether the nominee is aware of the nomination. We will then contact them for more detailed information about their expertise, etc.
To nominate yourself or someone else for the role of Chair, please use the forms, as above, but indicate that the nomination refers to the role of Chair in relevant section. If you are nominating yourself, please include a summary of your CV (maximum two sides of A4).
It is possible to apply for both the position of Chair and Member. Applying for both positions does not affect your application.
Please note: Applicants for TAG membership or Chair should not be intending to play a leading role or significant part in a NERC Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) or NERC Centre for Doctoral Training.
The next Training Advisory Group meeting is scheduled for 30 January 2014, in London. It is expected that successful applicants would be free to attend that meeting.
Both the form and the CV should be returned no later than 17:00 on 4 December 2013 to Anne Priest at firstname.lastname@example.org.
