PhD and Masters Studentships

The following are studentships approved for the academic year 2010-11. These studentships normally start in October 2010.

  1. Algorithm/Quota - PhD Studentships
  2. Open CASE Studentships
  3. Other PhD Studentship opportunities
  4. Masters Studentships (MSc and MRes)

Prospective students who would like further details about awards or about how to apply, should contact the head of department or institution holding the award, or the course organiser, not NERC. We do not accept applications from individuals.

For PhD students: for 2008 starts onwards, NERC will no longer pay PhD students directly, except where applicable, for Disabled Students Allowance (DSA). NERC will provide all funding to the departments who will arrange payment to the student. NERC will still require details about NERC-funded students.

For Masters Students: for 2006 starts onwards, NERC will no longer pay masters students directly, except where applicable, for Disabled Students Allowance (DSA). NERC will provide all funding to the departments who will arrange payment to the student. NERC will still require details about NERC-funded students.

The NERC Doctoral Training Grants (DTGs) and Masters Training Grants (MTGs) can be used flexibly to support postgraduate training within the associated Terms and Conditions. Departments and individuals in receipt of a DTG/MTG should familiarise themselves with the Terms and Conditions, which can be found in the latest edition of the Studentship handbook (June 2010).
