NERC and RSE Enterprise Fellowships
Extended application deadline: 23 November 2016
NERC has agreed to support up to five new Enterprise Fellowships to boost the development of new businesses from investments in environmental research.
The Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE) Enterprise Fellowship scheme provides support to researchers and innovators who have promising business ideas.
The programme, delivered by the RSE with support from the Biotechnology & Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), NERC, the Science & Technology Facilities Council (STFC) and Scottish Enterprise, allows fellows to focus solely on developing their business idea. They receive one year's salary, expert business training, business development funding and access to mentors from a pool of successful individuals in the commercial community.
The next call for applications is now open, closing on 23 November 2016.
More information, including eligibility and how to apply, is available on the RSE website - external link or through the scheme brochures available below:
Enterprise Fellowships are most successful when proof-of-concept has already been established. NERC offers both the Pathfinder and the Follow-on Fund, both designed to support the translation of fundamental research funded by the NERC into practical application, including commercialisation. The aim of these programmes is to help researchers establish commercial and technical proof-of-concept to maximise the societal and economic benefits of their research. The Follow-on Fund call runs annually with the current one closed and the next one due to open next spring/summer 2017. The Pathfinder fund is to enable opportunities to be identified regarding target markets, competitor analysis, intellectual property, potential commercial collaborators and end-users, and is available all year round.
