Marine sensor development capital call - Information workshop

16 September 2016
National Oceanography Centre (NOC), Southampton

This event has now closed - please refer to the announcement of opportunity page to access workshop materials and presentations.

Individuals interested in submitting a proposal to the marine sensor capital call are strongly encouraged to attend this workshop which will provide an opportunity to develop collaborations with other scientists and discuss integration of sensors into marine autonomous systems (MAS) with NOC technicians. The workshop is open to individuals and organisations eligible for NERC research grant funding - external link, ie applicants based in UK Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), NERC research and collaborative centres, and Independent Research Organisations (IROs) approved by NERC for managed mode. Attendance by eligible individuals/organisations at the workshop is not however a prerequisite for submitting a proposal.

Applicants should be aware that the call is specifically for project proposals that will develop sensors that are currently classified as a TRL 4-6 into sensors that will be at TRL 8 or 9 by the end of the project.

Registration for the workshop at NOC will ensure potential applicants have an opportunity to:

  • Discover the NERC MAS available at the NOC National Marine Equipment Pool (NMEP).
  • Discuss, with NOC technical experts, the current and future robotic MAS, to which sensors developed through the call will need to be integrated.
  • Discover potential collaborations with other academic partners working in sensor technologies.

The call outline can be downloaded from the pre-announcement webpage or below. A full Announcement of Opportunity is expected to be published in September 2016.
