Note: The Terms and Conditions and other information for all fEC Postdoctoral, Advanced and Independent Research Fellowships are now covered by the NERC Research Grants & Fellowships Handbook. This handbook includes the details of the application process for the NERC Independent Research Fellowships.
Research Grants Handbook 2004
For grants awarded prior to FEC
The 2004 version of the NERC Research Grants Handbook applies only to applications made before September 2005.

Pre-fEC Fellowships Handbook 2012
For fellowships awarded prior to fEC
The May 2012 edition applies to pre-fEC fellowships only (applications before September 2005).
Joint electronic-Submission system
Research grant and fellowship applications must be submitted using the Research Councils' Joint electronic-Submission system.
Applications for no-cost extensions to research grants and fellowships
Please note that all applications for no-cost extensions to research grants and fellowships should be submitted to the RCUK Shared Services Centre through the Je-S system. Grants can not be extended once the end date has passed.
Sanctions
Late Final Expenditure Statement Submission
Sanctions incurred by Research Organisations due to late submission of NERC grant Final Expenditure Statements will be strictly applied for statements due after 1 July 2011. This is in accordance with the financial conditions detailed in the NERC Research Grants & Fellowships Handbook. The appropriate financial sanction will be automatically applied by the RCUK Shared Services Centre.
