Deep Subsurface Geoscientist

Primary Tasks

  • Form part of a team of staff who work in the Energy Science Programme and contribute to high-profile scientific research, commercial and co-funded projects in the areas of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) and Geothermal Energy in particular. These activities will involve modelling of the deep geology from seismic and well log interpretation on a workstation. Training will be given if appropriate
  • Develop a principal scientific investigator role in one or more areas of CCS, Shale gas, Geothermal Energy or Geophysics, and to build a scientific profile through the publication of research
  • To undertake and contribute to the development of new grant bids and commercial projects in CCS, shale gas and Geothermal Energy and other areas

Secondary Tasks

  • Develop an expertise in Petrel and Geographix geological modelling and seismic interpretation software
  • Develop an expertise in Recall well log analysis software
  • Contribute to the wider BGS Energy Science Programme
