Qualifications

You don't need to be a scientist to work for NERC. Requirements for specific jobs can vary considerably. Detailed specifications will always be given in advertisements.

Scientists
Most scientific positions are for graduates or people with postgraduate qualifications such as masters or PhD degrees. Environmental scientists can have degrees in a wide range of subjects, including: biology, chemistry, physics, maths, ecology, genetics, geology, earth sciences, ocean and marine sciences, environmental science, information technology, computer science, geography, meteorology.

Technicians
Engineering and technical support roles usually require appropriate vocational qualifications.

Support staff
A number of our support and administration jobs are open to applicants with GCSE or A level qualifications or their equivalents.
