A list of activities carried out by each of the following business areas within Strategy & Partnerships can be seen below:
Strategic Management Group
- Development of effective methodologies for analysing and demonstrating impact.
- NERC strategic planning (strategy refresh, spending review, delivery plan, theme action plans).
- NERC performance evidence and reporting.
- NERC governance and decision support (Council and boards).
- Demonstrate NERC impact to Department for Business, Innovation & Skills (BIS).
Knowledge exchange (KE)
- Funding of knowledge exchange activities between researchers, businesses, policymakers and other organisations.
- Development of partnerships with key organisations (eg government departments, specific businesses) for research and impact.
- Commercialisation of research from NERC research centres, leading to licences and spin-out companies.
- Demonstrating the impact of NERC-funded research on the users of knowledge (eg government, business).
International
- Stakeholder engagement and influencing (Belmont Forum of international funders, Future Earth, EC framework programme 2014-2020, Brazil, China, India, USA).
- Strategic planning (BRIC and Future Earth agendas).
- Identify and deliver partnership opportunities that achieve NERC and Belmont Forum priorities (through NERC research programmes and international opportunities fund).
Communications
- Science communication (including public engagement) - fulfilling the NERC mission to communicate all aspects of our work; promoting, explaining and engaging the public and specific stakeholder groups in the scientific outcomes of NERC-funded science and supporting knowledge exchange.
- Corporate communication - brand and reputation management, corporate positioning, stakeholder engagement.
- Internal communications - supporting Swindon Office and cross-NERC communication with and between staff.
