Cycling facilities
NERC actively encourages employees to commute in an environmentally friendly way and has a Cycle to Work Scheme in place to assist with this.
Centres have cycling sheds and showering facilities, including some which have solar hot water. Investment has been made in cycling facilities over the last five years to encourage green travel, and new cycle sheds have been installed at our centres in Liverpool, Cambridge, Southampton and Bangor.
Some centres have folding bikes which can be loaned to employees for use at the end of a train journey instead of using a bus or taxi.
Several centres have successfully taken part in local cycle challenges. The challenge puts local organisations against each other to see how many staff they can encourage to register their cycle rides on the challenge website. Many staff have taken part, including some who were riding for the first time.
