NERC's internal scheme of delegation

Governance issues

Whether at a Council level or at an internal NERC management level, both the NERC Executive Board (NEB) and the Council Audit Committee (CAC) provide advice on governance issues affecting Council and NERC as an organisation.

  • NEB provides advice to the Chief Executive, who passes this on to Council as appropriate
  • CAC provides advice direct to Council

Council decides whether to act upon the advice it receives and empowers the Chief Executive, through NEB, to carry out any required actions. For internal governance issues, the Chief Executive decides what course of action to take.

So, for example, NEB had the opportunity to advise the Chief Executive on the Council paper on non-financial governance which addressed issues such as this scheme of delegation and the introduction of standard templates for Board papers and Council decided how to proceed.
