Pre-announcement of public engagement call
20 April 2017
NERC will launch a call towards the end of May 2017 for projects to support our long-term commitment to public engagement, building strong engagement between members of the UK public, environmental science and researchers.
We will invite proposals for consortium and capacity-building projects, the most successful of which will be invited to bid for a single second-stage, large-scale project that will deliver an ambitious, national-scale public engagement initiative.
We will be looking for innovative, interdisciplinary partnerships that challenge the current status quo, both in adopting best practice in public engagement and developing confidence in engaging with contemporary issues of environmental science that matter to the UK public.
This call is being informed the outputs of a community consultation workshop we held on 6 April. At the event, over 50 representatives from environmental science, public engagement and other communities explored the challenges of engaging with the UK public on contemporary issues of environmental science.
Research Councils UK (RCUK) will also be launching a funding call this spring to help better embed support for public engagement with research in higher education institutions.
We will announce full details of the call in late May.
