Opportunity to join the Innovation Advisory Board

There are currently no vacancies on NERC Innovation Advisory Board. All future opportunities will be advertised widely, including on this website.

NERC is the UK's leading funder of environmental science research, investing £330 million each year in cutting-edge research, postgraduate training and innovation in universities and research centres. Our scientists study and monitor the physical, chemical and biological processes on which our planet and life itself depends - from pole to pole, from the deep Earth and oceans to the atmosphere and space. NERC is a non-departmental public body, receiving annual funding from the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS). It operates under Royal Charter.

The Innovation Advisory Board advises NERC on its strategy for strengthening the delivery of economic growth and other societal benefits (impact) from its research and innovation investments. It helps NERC find the most effective ways to engage stakeholders, translate research and support innovation. The IAB also monitors and evaluates the effectiveness and impacts of NERC innovation investments.

The IAB meets three times a year and supports NERC Council and the executive by providing non-executive strategic advice and advocacy on innovation and impact.

Members of NERC Boards may receive £170 daily attendance fees. Fees are not payable to members who are civil servants; employees of NERC; full-time employees of organisations whose funds are derived from Votes of Parliament (eg government departments, UK Atomic Energy Authority, British Broadcasting Corporation, and other research councils); or have received public sector exit fees.

NERC is committed to the principle of providing equal opportunities for all. We support diversity in our public appointments and strongly encourage applications from suitable candidates from all backgrounds.
