Nomination and selection for chair and/or membership of the Innovation Advisory Board

Closing date for nominations: 6 March 2016

NERC invites applications from public- and private-sector organisations (business, government and civil society) to the Innovation Advisory Board (IAB).

NERC is the UK's leading funder of environmental science research, investing £330 million each year in cutting-edge research, postgraduate training and innovation in universities and research centres. Our scientists study and monitor the physical, chemical and biological processes on which our planet and life itself depends - from pole to pole, from the deep Earth and oceans to the atmosphere and space. NERC is a non-departmental public body, receiving annual funding from the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS). It operates under Royal Charter.

The Innovation Advisory Board advises NERC on its strategy for strengthening the delivery of economic growth and other societal benefits (impact) from its research and innovation investments. It helps NERC find the most effective ways to engage stakeholders, translate research and support innovation. IAB also monitors and evaluates the effectiveness and impacts of NERC innovation investments.

The IAB meets three times a year and supports NERC Council and the executive by providing non-executive strategic advice and advocacy on innovation and impact.

Appointments will commence in May 2016 for a period of two years with a possible one-year extension.

Members of NERC boards may receive the following daily fees for attendance: chair £230, members £170. Fees are not payable to members who are civil servants, employees of NERC or full-time employees of organisations whose funds are derived from votes of parliament (eg government departments, UK Atomic Energy Authority, British Broadcasting Corporation, and other research councils).

NERC is committed to the principle of providing equal opportunities for all. We are keen to obtain more diversity in our public appointments so would welcome applications from a range of candidates from all backgrounds.
