Closure of CEH research site

The Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (CEH) has confirmed that its research site at Winfrith in Dorset will close on 1 June 2007. This is the first stage of the transition plan for CEH to restructure from nine to four sites and from 600 to 440 employees by 2009. The plan to restructure CEH was endorsed in March 2006 by the Natural Environment Research Council, the parent body of the centre.

Biodiversity and water research, much of which is currently carried out at the Dorset site, will remain as core to CEH science activity. These two programmes together with biogeochemistry and environmental informatics are the main elements of the CEH science plan for the period 2006-2010. Most of the science work currently carried out from our Dorset site will be undertaken in future from the CEH site in Wallingford, Oxfordshire.
