Getting to NERC at Polaris House

Polaris House, Swindon

By rail

Polaris House is next to Swindon railway station, served by First Great Western services between London and Bristol/south Wales.

Rather than leave the station through the main doors by the ticket office you should instead go through the automatic ticket gate* adjacent to WHSmith (between platforms 1 and 3) and go up and across the footbridge. If you arrive at platform 4 (most trains from London do so) you should follow signs for platforms 1-3 first.

Polaris House is the low-rise brick building to your left as you descend the steps from the footbridge.

*Visitors are allowed to use the station subway and this footbridge exit to reach the research councils. Please use your rail ticket or Visitor Authorised Letter (available from your host) to gain access.

By road

From most approach routes, follow signs for Swindon Town centre. Then look out for signs for North Star/Oasis.

Follow these until you arrive at the Oasis roundabout adjacent to Swindon College. Take the second exit, continuing with the College on your left.

At the next roundabout turn left into the Polaris House main entrance road.

Visitor parking is available in front of reception and is clearly signposted (foreground of photo above).

If journeying by bus, disembark at Swindon bus station, walk north to the railway station and then follow the directions above concerning arriving by rail.
